January 12, 2007

Stuck with an external problem after I updated my Suse Linux 10.1 OS. I lost my NVidia support!!! I am in command line mode now, but I don't have time to fix it today

January 13, 2007

Couldn't compile the NVidia driver due to some packaging problems. However I did manage to get back to GUI, although I now have only 1 screen, so it is harder to work, because I now have to switch windows/Desktops. Tomorrow afternoon I will get back to working on BeOS Max V4.

January 14, 2007

Added NCurses 5.5

Added Yab 1.0

Added VMWare graphics driver

Plans: Upgrade drivers, and try the HAIKU usb driver. For this I will need to install on real hardware.

January 15, 2007

Updated NVidia drivers to 0.8

Added BePodder 1.2 Light

Started design work on an updater using yab and wget

January 16, 2007

Finished planning and started work on MaxUpdater code.

Updated BeShare to version 2.28

Work on MaxUpdater is going on as scheduled. It now updates itself from our file repository.

January 19, 2007

MaxUpdater file structure is almost done. Now working on GUI features and testing for speed. (we don't want another Yast)

January 24, 2007

More work done on MaxUpdater. It is getting there. Yab has proved it self, since I loaded quite a bit of gui and it is blazing fast. (http://vbeosa.blogspot.com/2007/01/testing-performance.html)

January 26, 2007

MaxUpdater bug fixing and getting it ready to do real updates. A lot of code written. Gui cleanup.

March 14, 2007

Added VMWare network support

March 20, 2007

Did some cleaning up and installation tests and finalized Beta 1.

BeOS 5 PE Max Edition V4 Beta 1 is being uploaded as I write these lines.

March 21, 2007

Beta 1 is ready for download. Go here BeOSMaxFiles.org (http://www.beosmaxfiles.org/)

Starting further development. If it isn't ready in 2 months, I will release a beta 2.

Changed Tracker.NewFS to OpenTracker 5.3.0 (newer version than Tracker.NewFS and more stable)

March 24, 2007

Added Intel PRO Wireless 2100 and 2200BG drivers.

March 26, 2007

Created a script that detects if you are running in VMWare before loading the input_server and creates the symbolink link for the mouse driver and runs the vmware server. This is needed for VMWare Fusion (MacOS X).

Started work on a FirstRun script. This should help you get started when you first run BeOS Max.

March 27, 2007

Had to rework how vmware mouse is loaded because links cannot be created if booting from CD. Instead I used AGMSRamFileSystem to create a ram file where the actual drivers are placed and links on the CD show there. Once the cd is loaded, and before any interaction is needed, the ram file is created, input server is restarted and boom... you have a working VMWare mouse. After setup, links are fixed and removed if needed. This technique can be used to provide working network in live CD mode. This will be done for beta 2 also.

April 6, 2007

Not much has been done. Mainly work on the boot scripts and minor bug fixes.

Major news is that Max can no longer be considered "illegal". Access, the owner of Palms IP, has given me an unofficial OK through David Schlesinger, the company's Director of Open Source.
