Files that we are editing
/boot/beos/system/lib/libbe.so
Editing libbe.so
I am editing libbe.so from a link on the desktop. This way makes for easy access. Navigate to /boot/beos/system/lib/ from in the Tracker. Right click on libbe.so and choose: Create Link > Desktop. Now from the desktop, right click on libbe.so and choose Open With... > QuickRes. Should look like this:
Editing the old image - big_beos.tga
This is what the old logo from the latest BeOS max edition look like:
And here is what we're going to use for this guide - however you can use any other image with the same dimensions.
Save this file to the desktop. Now while you have libbe.so open in QuickRes, drag YellowTAB_199x60.png and drop it into here:
Now double click in the editing window with the blue rotating lines on the outside of the square.
After that the end result should look like this:
Save you edits with alt+s or from the file menu. Now we've edited the image file. You may now exit QuickRes.
Editing libbe.so with FileType
Right click on libbe.so and choose Add-Ons > FileType. Edit the selected area and input the text of your choice. For example, I wrote 'Zeta 1.2 custom'. To my knowledge this is the only 'editable' text area that can be changed on the About BeOS window.
Hit 'enter' in the description box to initialise the change. Now save and exit.
Activating the changes
After you're done, you may go to BeMenu > About BeOS but notice how nothing has changed. Launce BeRestart and choose Restart > Media Services. Now you can view the About BeOS. The changes are now in effect.
